The highlight race of the Louisiana Downs meeting is the $400,000 Super Derby (G2), celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. A field of 11 three-year-olds went 1 1/8 miles on the main track in Bossier City on Saturday, under cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 90's. Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Mobile Bay was sent off as the 6-5 favorite off 3rd place finishes in both the Iowa Derby (G3) and West Virginia Derby (G2). In to challenge him included 3-1 second choice Jessica's Star, winner of the Iowa Derby but second in the Ohio Derby, and 5-1 third choice East Hall, winner of the Ohio Derby.

28-1 Ide Be Cool battled for the lead with Mobile Bay and 45-1 Gold Appointment through fractions of 23.10, 47.88, and 1:12.21 over the fast main track. Entering the lane, Mobile Bay gained the lead and quickly opened up a 5 length lead through 1 mile in 1:37.03. 88-1 longest shot Chocopologie, last early, put in a strong late rally to no avail as Mobile Bay drew off to a 7 1/4 length win in 1:50.38. It was another 3/4 length back to 11-2 fourth choice Allied Air Raid third.

 Uncle Brennie wins the Sunday Silence Stakes

A field of 8 two-year-olds contested the $75,000 Sunday Silence Stakes at 1 mile on the turf. My Point Exactly was sent off as the 8-5 favorite over 5-2 Task Force Glory and 5-1 Ride n' Reel.
25-1 Haney set the pace of 23.47, 49.28, and 1:13.72 over the firm course while stalked by 7-1 Sharon's Boy. Entering the lane, Ride n' Reel, 6th early, moved up to take the lead through 7/8 in 1:25.77 but My Point Exactly, 4th early, and 39-1 longest shot Sylvan Hills Boy, 5th early, closed together with My Point Exactly prevailing by a neck in 1:38.40. It was another 1/2 length back to Ride n' Reel third.

 Haunted Heroine wins the River City Stakes

The $75,000 River Cities Stakes featured a field of 10 older fillies and mares going 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Haunted Heroine was the 11-10 favorite over 5-1 Malibu Yankee and 11-2 Miss Addison. Jockey Rosie Napravnik sent Haunted Heroine to the lead and she set fractions of 23.70, 49.54, and 1:13.98 over the firm course while pressed by 68-1 Defiant Red and 44-1 Silent Lust. Entering the lane, the two longshots tired badly as Haunted Heroine opened up a 5 length lead through 1 mile in 1:36.57. Malibu Yankee put in a late rally from 5th to no avail as Haunted Heroine cruised to a 3 3/4 length win in 1:42.37. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back to 6-1 Anahauc third.

 String King wins the Unbridled Stakes

Immediately before the Super Derby, a field of 8 older horses contested the $75,000 Unbridled Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. String King was the 8-5 favorite over 2-1 Coalport and 7-2 Red Strike. 12-1 Well's Gold set the pace of 23.71, 47.95, and 1:11.10 while pressed by Coalport. At the top of the lane, Coalport moved up to take the lead and easily held off late-running 13-1 String King by 1 length in 1:40.71. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back to pacesetter Well's Gold third and 1 3/4 more to favorite String King fourth. However, Coalport drifted out and interfered with String King at the 1/16 pole, so the stewards disqualified him and placed him second, giving the win to String King.

 Saritta wins the Happy Ticket Stakes

The $75,000 Happy Ticket Stakes was for 2-year-old fillies going 1 mile on the turf. Saritta was the 2-1 favorite in the field of 11 over 5-2 Know It All Anna and 4-1 La Rambla. 35-1 Fab Fox battled for the lead with Saritta and 42-1 Private Promise through fractions of 22.74, 47.64, and 1:12.62. Entering the stretch, Saritta gained the lead through 7/8 in 1:25.20, and held off late-running La Rambla by a neck in 1:37.24. It was another 3 lengths back to Know It All Anna third.

 Ten Crowns wins the Louisiana Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old fillies

Kicking off the stakes action was the $90,000 Louisiana Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old fillies going 7 furlongs on the main track. 8-5 favorite Ten Crowns was sent to the lead by jockey Patrick Johnson and set fractions of 22.79, 45.93, and 1:11.07 while stalked by 20-1 Gold Chrome and 3-1 second choice Persuade Me Lady. Kept to task by Johnson, Ten Crowns drew off theough the lane to win by 6 3/4 lengths over Persuade Me Lady in 1:24.85. It was another 3 lengths back to 20-1 Z Smoke third.

 Our Rapidash wins the Louisiana Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings

The $100,000 Louisiana Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings featured 10 juvenile males sprinting 7 furlongs. 6-1 Mr. L.S. Shoe contested the pace with 5-1 Salute the C through fractions of 22.94, 46.14, and 1:10.31. In deep stretch, Mr. L. S Shoe began to pull away, finishing up 1 3/4 lengths ahead of Salute the C in 1:24.00. It was a long 8 lengths back to 4-1 Contangold third, while 6-5 favorite Union Builder checked in 6th.
