Left: Ag Bullet in the winner's circle. Winning trainer Richard Baltas said, "Rispoli knows Ag Bullet and had a great handle on the horse from start to finish. Once they broke away, they took it home effortlessly in the final stretch. Rispoli held her pace as long as possible, and that was the key. I hope to have her running a mile soon."
Right: Ag Bullet in the paddock before the race. Winning jockey Umberto Rispoli said, "She is a goofy filly. You need to be careful going up to the gate, she can do anything. She can raise up, throw you down, but she has so much quality and potential that she doesn't know. It was a good trip Richard (Baltas) does an amazing job. I am so glad that he won a Grade III today. I'm blessed with all the connections, Calvin and Joey they have supported me for a long time."
Left: Second place finisher Miss Lizzy in the paddock. The Doug O'Neill trainee improved her record to 4 wins, 5 seconds, and 3 thirds in 17 starts, earning $202,320 for owners Glenn Sorgenstein WC Racing Inc. and Wonderland Racing Stables.
Right: Third place finisher Getthemoney in the paddock. The Brian Koriner trainee improved her record to 2 wins, 1 second, and 2 thirds in 6 starts, earning $121,940 for owners Alan Klein, Philip Lebherz, and Janet Lyons.
Closing out the 12 race card, the $125,000 Echo Eddie Stakes featured a field of 9 California bred or sired 3-year-olds sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track. Tom Seaver, undefeated in 2 starts, was sent off as the 5-2 favorite over 3-1 second choice Shady Tiger off 2 allowance wins, and 7-2 third choice Refocus, an allowance winner last out after finishing 4th in the Graduation Stakes at Del Mar in August.
Jockey Jose Valdivia Jr. sent 51-1 Prince Prancealot to the lead out of the chute through fractions of 22.27 and 45.17 while pressed by 5-1 fourth choice Known Idea and stalked by Tom Seaver and Shady Tiger. Turning for home Prince Prancealot tired allowing Shady Tiger to take over through 3/4 in 1:10.35. Kept to task by Juan Hernandez, Shady Tiger drew off to win by 5 1/2 lengths over 28-1 Stay On the Fence in 1:16.61. It was a nose back to 15-2 Two by Four third, and another length to favorite Tom Seaver fourth.
Shady Tiger in the winner's circle. Winning trainer Phil D'Amato said, "That was an impressive performance. This horse has done nothing wrong in the mornings. He has impressed me, and I think he wants to go longer the way he galloped out today. We've been trying to get him to go in a two-turn race, but there really hasn't been anything. I think in the months to come there's a Cal-bred stake going long. Who knows, he might be able to compete against open company going long. I thought Tom Seaver got the jump on him at the turn and Juan was stuck on the inside, but when Juan got him in the clear, he exploded. He's a nice horse, and I think he just keeps getting better and better."
