![]() Pneumatic returns after winning the 2020 Pegasus Stakes

The feature race at Monmouth Park on Saturday was the $150,000 TVG.com Pegasus Stakes for 3-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles over the main track at historic Monmouth Park in Oceanport, the final race of the Kentucky Derby Championship Series worth 20 points to the winner. Conditions were excellent on the Jersey Shore with sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70's. Pneumatic was sent off as the 4-5 favorite in the field of 8 off his 4th place finish in the Belmont Stakes (G1) after finishing 3rd in the Matt Winn (G3). In to challenge him included 4-1 second choice Jesus' Team, 4th in the Haskell (G1), and 17-4 third choice Arkaan, making his stakes debut undefeated in 2 starts.

Left: Pneumatic in the winner's circle. Winning jockey Joe Bravo said, "I don't know what their plans are going forward with this horse but I'd like to say he did this very effortlessly and well within himself."
Right: Pneumatic heads back to the barn. David Fiske, racing manager for owner Winchell Thoroughbreds said, "Depending on how he comes out, we might change our mind (about the Derby). He would have to do something just amazing in the next two weeks for that to happen. I raised his mother, his grandmother, and his great-grandmother. He's a true homeboy."

But you never really know until you sit on them. He was just in full control the whole time. A very relaxed animal — he was going very smoothly. I give credit to the other two horses for hanging with him for second and third because we kicked so solidly turning for home and I looked and I said 'okay, they've stayed with us for a little bit.' "

Right: The mostly empty grandstand at Monmouth Park. Monmouth is currently the only track in North America conducting live racing with spectators in attendance but in very restricted numbers.
