The highlight race of the Del Mar meeting is the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic (G1), featuring the best older horses of the west coast going 1 1/4 miles over the dirt, and is a Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" qualifier for the Classic. Collected galloped on Wednesday morning for trainer Bob Baffert. Collected drew post 2 and was assigned morning line odds of 5-2 for the Pacific Classic. "It's (the draw) not that big of a deal," Baffert continued Wednesday morning. "In a mile-and-a-quarter race there's a long run to the turn to get positioned. I would have preferred to have Collected more outside, but he should be fine from where he is."

Curlin Road galloped on Thursday morning at Del Mar. Curlin Road, who won the Cougar II Handicap (G3) at Del Mar last out, drew post 7 for the Pacific Classic. "I'm very happy with the draws for both of them," trainer Doug O'Neill said. "I like the fact that they're a little more to the outside." |
Donworth galloped on Thursday morning at Del Mar. Donworth drew the No. 6 post position for the Pacific Classic. Donworth finished second to Accelerate in the San Diego Handicap (G2) last month, also beating Arrogate. "Donworth is a big, strong, athletic horse like Lava Man and he has speed like Lava Man did," trainer Doug O'Neill said. "He has been plagued with injuries, but right now he's really in top shape." |
