The feature race on Saturday at Woodbine was the $150,000 Ontario Derby (G3) for top 3-year-olds going 1 1/8 miles on the Tapeta main track. Conditions were excellent for mid October in Toronto with partly cloudy skies and a race time temperature of 21.1 C (70.0 F). Marine Stakes (G3) and King's Plate winner Mansetti was sent off as the 2-1 favorite in the field of 7 off his close second in the Prince of Wales Stakes. In to challenge him included 7-2 second choice Runaway Again, winner of the Prince of Wales, and 9-2 third choice He's Not Joking, unraced since finishing 11th in the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) at Turfway in March.

Left: Borealis Trail in the winner's circle. Winning trainer Rachel Halden said, "It's a little bit of redemption for him for getting beat in the Breeders', the way that he did. Obviously, we were thrilled with how he ran, but when you're second by just a head in a race like that, it's a bit more frustrating than being beating fair and square by two lengths. So, it was definitely a bit of redemption for him today."
Right: Borealis Trail gets hosed off after the race. Winning jockey Jose Campos said, "I think he's an excellent horse. He's a super horse. Rachel is doing an excellent job with the horse. He's a difficult horse to train, and he's doing good. So, I tried to save ground in the first part, and when I asked [him] to go, the horse just flew."

Left: Borealis Trail in the paddock before the race. Halden added, "I think looking at his form, and I was kind of looking at the betting, I think everyone was sort of following that, thinking of him probably as a turf horse, because that's when he kind of came around. But if you go back to his first race here on the Tapeta, it was very solid. We just went the turf route because we were thinking about the Breeders', but he's proved today that he can definitely handle this surface too."

Left: Second place finisher and beaten favorite Mansetti returns after the race. The Kevin Attard trainee improved his record to 5 wins, 2 seconds, and 0 thirds in 10 starts, earning $773,503 for owners Al and Bill Ulwelling.
Right: Third place finisher Wagstaff in the paddock before the race. The Nathan Squires trainee improved his record to 3 wins, 1 second, and 1 third in 10 starts, earning $116,345 for owner Andrew Ritter.

The horses break from the gate for the Ontario Derby. Due to a chain reaction when both Mansetti (2) and Runaway Again (4) broke outward into other runners (including winner Borealis Trail, 5), the official chart stated that only 3 of the 7 horses had a good start.
