2006 Kentucky Derby and Oaks Future WagerUpdate: Pool Three of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. Off his impressive win in the Santa Anita Derby, Brother Derek closed as the favorite at 5-1 with Lawyer Ron next at 8-1 while Barbaro and Discreet Cat were 9-1. After being favored in the first two pools, the field was only 15-1 this time. The total pool was $454,743, third highest ever for the third pool. The Kentucky Oaks had only $51,212 wagered on it and Balance remained the favorite at 4-1 despite her loss to Brushfire in the Ashland at Keeneland.
The third and final pool of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager opens this Thursday, April 6th at noon ET. This time the favorite is Brother Derek, who will run this weekend in the Santa Anita Derby. Second favorite is Florida Derby winner Barbaro at 5-1 followed by the field of all other 3-year-olds at 6-1.
Pool Three of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager also opens this Thursday, April 6th at noon ET and the the 7-2 favorite is Santa Anita Oaks winner Balance, who will race in the Ashland at Keeneland this weekend. Second choice is all other 3-year-old fillies at 5-1 with Teammate, Wait a While, and Wild Fit next at 12-1.
Both are two-dollar minimum wagers to win only, and the pools close on Sunday, April 9th at 6:00PM ET. Pool 1 was January 26-29 and Pool 2 was March 2-5. The 132nd running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 6 with the Kentucky Oaks the day before on May 5. Full rules and info for the wagers are available here.
