Left: Formidable Man in the winner's circle. Winning jockey Umberto Rispoli said, "Look this horse has been working lights out, for weeks. Michael decided to escape to twilight there and I think that was a perfect call, giving a horse enough time for this race. It is always a tough race at the end of the year. We have a few horses coming from back East, so we have to respect everybody, and the horses from California. But look, I am pleased. I have been working him for the past three works that he had, and he was getting better, better and better. I knew there was quality and potential there. And he proved that to me today. I can't be more pleased for Mr. Warren and his wife; they really support me, giving me so many chances in my career, and it's a blessing to win for people like that."
Right: Formidable Man in the paddock before the race. Winning trainer Mike McCarthy said, "He had a fantastic trip. I had said to Umberto (jockey Rispoli) maybe we go ahead and bounce out of there early. I wasn't sure what to make of the pace. On paper it didn't look like there was going to be a ton. Glad to see we were sitting where we were just behind the speed. He always looked like he was threatening to run a big one. A hole opened up and he exploded." McCarthy dedicated the win to fellow trainer and former boss Ben Cecil who died Friday after a battle with cancer. "He was a good man, a good father, and a good trainer. He loved life. This is a tough day."

Then I started following Kazushi (Kimura on Astronomer) and on the turn we found a spot. When I asked my horse, he really went. He's a nice horse. At the end he was looking around for another horse to beat."
Right: Mi Hermano Ramon in the paddock before the race. Winning trainer Mark Glatt said, "He's going to run his race. He's going to fall back. He's not a horse that can quicken so we just wanted to keep him in the clear. Don't want to lose any momentum with him because once he gets going he comes pretty good. Hector (Berrios) put a perfect ride on him, they parted the seas for him and he got a spot and got the 'W'."
Left: Second place finisher and beaten favorite Redistricting in the paddock before the race. Jockey Flavien Prat said, "He was too far back."

Left: Will Then in the winner's circle. Winning jockey Vincent Cheminaud said, "I was very confident. I was influenced three years ago; I rode a lot for Augustin Stables. It is very important for me, they gave me their trust, their belief in me and I was very happy to win for them today. And you know, Jonathan (trainer Thomas) is such a good trainer, and we have a very good relationship. Listen, the last time she won easy, but today she needs to improve. She is very nice, you know. I want to see her in the next year."
Right: Will Then in the paddock before the race. Winning trainer Jonathan Thomas said, "I loved that trip. I actually loved the fact that she got shuffled back. Just for educational reasons I thought this was great. Once the pace kicked on it looked like there was a lot of contested situations in front of us. We just looped and reined out of the back and got a clear run. She's really figuring this course out quickly."
Left: Second place finisher Casalu in the paddock before the race. Jockey Kazushi Kimura said, "She did everything right. From the three-eighths, I started asking her to pick it up. She finished strong. Unfortunately, she got beat."
Right: Third place finisher Resolve in the paddock. Trainer Leonard Powell said, "She got checked two or three times and still rallied. I think objectively she was the best. She's got a nice future."
Fourth place finisher and beaten favorite Sea Runner in the paddock before the race. The Tim Yakteen trainee has a record of 1 win, 0 seconds, and 2 thirds in 4 starts, earning $59,400 for owner-breeder Cuyathy.
