Jockey Frank T. Alvarado, a regular in Northern California since 2000, picked up win number 4000 on Sunday October 22 at Golden Gate Fields aboard 13-1 shot Shout It Out in the 2nd race, a $4000 claiming event for older fillies and mares for a $14,000 purse. The Kelly Bainum trainee came from off the pace, rallied 5 wide to win by a nose over pacesetter Jays Angel for owner DNA Racing Stable. Due to the close finish Alvarado had to wait for the photo finish before celebrating, greeted in the winner's circle post-race

Alvarado, a native of Panama, got his first win at Hipodromo Presidente Ramon Racecourse on April 2, 1984. Some of Alvarado's top mounts include graded stakes winners Bonfante, Devious Course, Hudson Landing, Lottsa Talc, McCann's Mojave, More to Tell, and Now Victory. Grade 1 placed Antares World and 5-time stakes winner Lady Railrider are too additional notables whom Alvarado regularly rode. Among Alvarado's top mounts currently in training are champion Northern California sprinter Top Harbor and recent Del Mar stakes winning 2-year-old Grand Slam Smile.
At time of writing his record stands at 4,000 wins, 3860 seconds, and 3972 thirds in 26,221 starts, with purse earnings of $87.8 million. McCann's Mojave, winner of the Berkeley Stakes (G3) is by far his best runner, earning $953,610 with him aboard. Second best is Lottsa Talc, winner of the Barbara Fritchie Handicap (G2), with purse earnings of $526,960, followed by Lady Railrider, who did not win any stakes but earned $452,070.. His best year in the saddle was 2008, when his mounts earned over $4.4 million off his career best 245 wins.
