The feature race on Saturday night at Evangeline Downs was the $125,000 Evangeline Mile Handicap. A field of 10 older horses contested this 1 mile trip around two turns of the Opelousas, Louisiana oval. Al Stall Jr. trainee Apart was sent off as the 4-5 favorite off a sixth place finish in the Lone Star Handicap (G3) at Lone Star Park. In to challenge him included 7-1 second choice Heavy On Themister off his second place finish in the Louisiana Legends Classic, and 15-2 third choice Pirate Island, second in the Louisiana Legends Sprint last out.

Left: Second place finisher and beaten favorite Apart in the post parade. The 4-5 favorite trailed early 7 lengths off the pace under jockey Gerard Melancon, then closed late but just missed. The Al Stall Jr. trainee improved his record to 5 wins, 4 seconds, and 2 thirds in 17 starts, earning $734,610 for owner-breeder Adele Dilschneider.
Right: Third place finisher Sweetsouthernmoon heads into the starting gate. The 10-1 fifth choice raced in 7th early under jockey Diego Saenz, responded when asked but finished third beaten 5 3/4 lengths. The Ron Faucheux trainee improved his record to 9 wins, 7 seconds, and 10 thirds in 36 starts, earning $285,960 for owner Robert Asaro.
