Winning trainer Josie Carroll said, "When people ask you about what makes you successful with horses, I say patient owners, owners that give you the opportunity to let their horses develop and do what they can do. I knew that this horse had a little bit higher cruising speed than my other horse [Tyson], but they were both going to be right there. Treason is just a good horse. We thought he was a good horse from the beginning, and he really proved himself today."

Winning jockey Kazushi Kimura said, "He's a natural speed horse, that's why when I get on him in the morning, I just try and take it easy. Today, he was really comfortable beside the horse in the backstretch. Everything was going smooth. I was just trying to make sure to stay with Johnny's [Velazquez] horse [Wolfie's Dynaghost], but he really exploded and picked it up really quick from the three-eighths."

Rockcrest wins the Pink Lloyd Stakes

The $100,000 Pink Lloyd Stakes over 6 furlongs on Tapeta originally drew a field of 13 older Ontario-sired horses, but after two scratches (one at the starting gate), 11 made the gate. The race was originally run as the Ontario Jockey Club Stakes, but renamed this year in honour of the multiple Sovereign Award winning sprinter and 2023 Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee, who retired in 2021 after winning 29 of 38 starts and earning over $2.4 million. Pink Lloyd, now 11, is enjoying his retirement at LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement in Hillsburgh. Jacques Cartier Stakes (G3) fourth place finisher Candy Overload was the 6-5 favorite over 9-2 second choice Secret Reserve, third in an allowance last out, and 5-1 third choice Miss Speedy, second in the Whimsical (G3).

Jockey Keveh Nicholls sent 6-1 fourth choice Rockcrest to the lead down the backstretch through fractions of 23.46 and 45.53 while pressed by Miss Speedy and stalked by 15-1 Mason's Gamble. Turning for home, Rockcrest opened up a 3 length lead through 5f in 57.08, and easily held off late-running favorite Candy Overload to win by 2 lengths in 1:09.68. It was another 2 3/4 lengths back to 52-1 Last American Exit third.

Right: Rockcrest walks over before the race. Winning owner-trainer Nigel Burke said, "The feeling is indescribable because he makes me feel like I could compete with the big boys being from a small operation. As you saw, he puts his heart out on the table all the time and that's all I could ask of him. I did promise that if I ever made it across again to this green horseshoe – you guys gave me a lot of credit for Rockcrest – that I would thank Dylan Dunn, his exercise rider, who has done a tremendous job with him. His groom, Brian, too. You couldn't ask for a better team behind him. It's a team thing."
