Juan Hernandez and Neige Blanche return after winning the 2021 CTT and TOC Stakes

The feature race on Saturday at Del Mar's summer meeting was the $80,000 CTT and TOC Stakes for older fillies and mares going 1 3/8 miles over the Jimmy Durante turf course. Conditions were excellent for mid-August at the seaside oval with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 70's. Tapwater was sent off as the 2-1 favorite in the field of 8 off third place finishes in the Santa Barbara (G3) and Osunitas Stakes. In to challenge her included 3-1 second choice Rideforthecause, second in the Santa Barbara before winning the Possibly Perfect, and 7-2 third choice Neige Blanche, winner of the Santa Barbara before finishing third in the Possibly Perfect.

Down the stretch in the CTT and TOC Stakes

Jockey Joe Bravo sent 6-1 Ippodamia's Girl to the lead for the first lap of the firm course through easy fractions of 25.78, 50.53, 1:16.30, and 1:41.94 while pressed by Tapwater and stalked by Rideforthecause. Turning for home, Ippodamia's Girl tired badly to finish last, as Tapwater inherited the lead through 10f in 2:06.07. However, Neige Blanche, 4th early under Juan Hernandez, moved out for room and outfinished 4-1 fourth choice Red Lark to win by 1/2 a length in 2:17.45. It was another 3/4 length back to favorite Tapwater third.

Right: Third place finisher and beaten favorite Tapwater in the paddock. The Richard Mandella trainee improved her record to 3 wins, 2 seconds, and 3 thirds in 12 starts, earning $187,160 for owner-breeder LNJ Foxwoods.
