The richest races on the continent this weekend were run on Saturday at Parx Racing with two $1 million events run at the Bensalem, Pennsylvania oval. Conditions were typical for mid September, with cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 80's, the main track fast and the turf was firm (but turf races after race 3 were taken off).
The co-feature race on Saturday was the $1 million Cotillion Stakes (G1), with a field of 8 three-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the main track. Scottish Lassie was sent off as the 8-5 favorite off his 15 1/2 length romp in the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) at Saratoga. In to challenge her included 9-5 second choice Good Cheer, winner of the Kentucky Oaks (G1) but second in the Alabama (G1) last out, and 5-1 third choice Clicquot off her win in the Indiana Oaks (G3).

Left: Clicquot in the winner's circle. Winning owner Sol Kumin, celebrating his 100 Grade 1 stakes win said, "Excited to get 100 in the books. Now we need to start all over again. It's an exciting achievement. Lots of special horses contributed to 100."
Right: The trophy presentation for the Cotillion. Winning trainer Brendan Walsh said, "We knew she was improving – it's easy to say it now – but for her to come and beat these fillies [as] a relatively lightly raced filly, I thought it was quite an accomplishment from her."

Left: Clicquot returns after the rae. Winning jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. said, "I don't want to make the lead, but I don't want somebody to surprise me outside either. I used those two horses as a target and I wanted to stay there and start working on her slowly, but I had so much horse she just went by them. I think she made the lead a little early and she got lost and hesitated a little bit, then she felt them and gave me another gear. I think she has a little more."

Left: Second place finisher Dry Powder walks over before the race. Trainer Chad Summers said, "To run in this race against three Grade 1 winners and an up-and-coming star in Clicquot, it's all you can ask for. Obviously, it's painful to lose a million-dollar race like that when she gallops out back in front after the wire."
Right: Third place finisher Ourdaydreaminggirl heads out to the track before the race. Trainer Lou Linder said, "We thought we could be closer, but he said they were just going too quick, so he let her settle and asked her for her late run and she came with it. I wish it was a couple of steps longer, but I'm very pleased with the effort. We knew there was more to her and she's showing it."

Left: Nelson Avenue in the winner's circle. Winning trainer Jorge Abreu said, "This horse was sitting on a good race. Last time, I think he was little too [close] on a fast pace at Kentucky Downs on the turf, they went extremely fast and he still dug in for fourth. I told Joel, just ride your race, I don't want to tell you to take the lead or come from behind, but if they got too much speed, just sit right off them. He said don't worry about it, we got it."

Left: Second place finisher Dilger walks over before the race. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. said, "I tried to let the outside horse go, I couldn't because he put me right there without asking him to be there so I took it. Maybe we went a little fast, but that's the way the race set up and he tried all the way to the wire. Tough beat."
Right: Third place finisher Coastal Mission heads out for the post parade. The Jeff Runco trainee improved his record to 14 wins, 5 seconds, and 3 thirds in 29 starts, earning $1,177,153 for owner-breeder Coleswood Farm.

Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. sent Digital Ops to the lead first time by through easy fractions of 25.13, 49,22, 1:15.19, and 1:41.47 while pressed by 16-1 Double Your Money and stalked by No Bien Ni Mal. Turning for home Digital Ops tired allowing Double Your Money to gain the lead through 10f in 2:07.23. No Bien No Mal, who tracked the pacesetters around all 3 turns, came out for room under Joel Rosario and rallied to win going away by 1 3/4 lengths in 2:31.23. It was a long 7 3/4 lengths back to 38-1 Praetorian Guard third.

Left: No Bien Ni Mal heads to the winner's circle. Winning trainer Paulo Lobo said, "I was expecting a big race. I was worried about the weight - he gave six pounds to almost everybody. I like the way Rosario set him in the backstretch. He was a little rank, but it worked out well. It's his second race, I tried to come a little easy with him. I'm building him for next year. We have big races next year, maybe Dubai (World Cup). He's a very good horse."
Right: The trophy presentation for the Greenwood Cup. Winning jockey Joel Rosario said, "He was throwing his head a little bit, he wanted to go forward a little bit, but he settled. You kind of had to play with him a little bit. When he settled, he just did everything for you. Turning for home, I was still holding him and then as soon as I let him go he just went on. I think he was the best horse in the race by far."

Left: Second place finisher Double Your Money returns after the race. Trainer Benjamin Dunn said, "I'm tickled to death the way he ran. I've been looking to run him a mile and half since the first time I breezed this horse. He gallops out like no other horse I see."
Right: Third place finisher Praetorian Guard walks over before the race. The Louis Linder Jr. trainee improved his record to 3 wins, 5 seconds, and 7 thirds in 31 starts, earning $222,020 for owners Conway Racing, Over the Moon Racing, and Innovest BC.
