The richest races on the continent this weekend were run on Saturday at Parx Racing with two $1 million events run at the Bensalem, Pennsylvania oval. Conditions were excellent most of the day with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 80's.
The co-feature race on Saturday was the $1 million Cotillion Stakes (G1) for 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the main track, and is the only Grade 1 race run in the Keystone State. A field of 11 (10 betting interests) went to post on Saturday with Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) winner I'm a Chatterbox sent off as the 2-1 favorite off her second place finish in the Alabama (G1), both at Saratoga. In to challenge her included 3-1 second choice Embellish the Lace, winner of the Alabama, and the two-horse Stonestreet entry of Summertime Oaks (G2) runner-up Tara's Tango and Black-Eyed Susan (G1) winner Keen Pauline at 4-1.

Also on the card was the Pennsylvania Derby (G2) won by Frosted.

Right: Third place finisher Peace and War returns after the race. The 6-1 fourth choice raced 8th about 7 lengths off the pace under Joel Rosario then rallied to get third beaten 4 1/4 lengths. The Graham Motion trainee improved her record to 2 wins, 3 seconds, and 1 third in 9 starts, earning $430,417 for owner Qatar Racing.

Jockey Roberto Alvarado Jr. sent 17-1 Grasshoppin to the lead and he set fractions of 23.66, 47.66, and 1:12.09 while pressed by Encryption and stalked by 7-1 Market Blaster. Entering the lane, jockey Paco Lopez sent Encryption to the front and he left the field in his wake, drawing off to win by 6 1/4 lengths over late-running 9-2 fourth choice Classic Giacnroll in 1:44.34. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back to pacesetter Grasshoppin third.

Jockey Jorge Vargas Jr. sent Uncle Dave to the lead and he set fractions of 24.50, 49.49, and 1:13.10 over the firm going while pressed by Beyond Smart and stalked by Roadhog. The pace battle betweem Uncle Dave and Beyond Smart continued for the entire race, with Beyond Smart gaining a brief lead in the stretch through 1 mile in 1:37.84, but Uncle Dave fought back to win by a head in 1:44.13. It was just a nose back to late-runnig Forward Thinker third.
