WWE Day at Woodbine

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (WWE), Variety, the Children's Charity and host Woodbine Entertainment Group will once again team up for the second annual WWE Day at Woodbine Racetrack, Sunday, August 17.

WWE Superstars Kurt Angle, Sable, Torrie Wilson, Rey Mysterio, Chris Benoit, John Cena, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, Matt Hardy, Shannon Moore and Jim Ross (J.R.) will be the special guests for an autograph session with racing and entertainment fans on Sunday, from noon - 1:30 pm, in the paddock tent, adjacent to Woodbine's front entrance.

Following the autograph session, the WWE Superstars will participate in a sold-out BBQ inside Woodbine's east-end V.I.P. Tent, where the Superstars will entertain guests with their stories in the squared circle.

Then, in the designated race, Sunday's fourth, for maiden three and four-year-olds over seven furlongs on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course, WWE Superstars will each be paired with a horse entered in the race. Woodbine Entertainment will donate its portion from this race to Variety. It is hoped that more than $75,000 will be raised from the daylong event.

Horse-WWE Superstar matchups for the WWE race were conducted on Thursday at a media reception with special guest drawmasters Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin and Zach Gowen. Haas and Benjamin are the WWE Tag Team Champions and both come from strong amateur and college athletic backgrounds. Gowen is a newcomer to the WWE who overcame cancer as a child which caused him to have his left leg amputated. He always dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler and just had his first match, where he wrestles without his prosthetic leg, on July 3, 2003.

The WWE Day race will be the fourth on the card and run at seven furlongs on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course. Below is the field for the WWE Day race to be run Sunday, August 17, 2003 at Woodbine.
