Last week three Breeders' Cup winners from last year were schooling at Santa Anita. Action This Day, winner of the Juvenile, was prepping for the San Felipe. Halfbridled, winner of the Juvenile Fillies, was prepping for her season debut in the Santa Anita Oaks. Classic winner Pleasantly Perfect was loaded up for his trip to Dubai for the Dubai World Cup later this month.
Action This Day was busiest as he prepped for his start in the San Felipe Stakes on Sunday. Here he is schooling in the paddock on Friday.
Action This Day was back to school some more on Saturday afternoon between races. Mandella exercise rider Janeen Painter is aboard Action This Day as they school the colt.
Here is Action This Day in the paddock before the San Felipe Stakes. Unfortunately he was bothered by a loose horse in the race, finishing seventh and coming out of the race with a cut leg.
Halfbridled was out on Thursday to school in preparation for her 2004 debut in the Santa Anita Oaks on Saturday.
Unfortunately, Halfbridled didn't win the Santa Anita Oaks and is shown here finishing second to Silent Sighs. Trainer Richard Mandella said she would go next in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on April 30.
Friday morning a happy Pleasantly Perfect heading toward the van to Hollywood Park, from there he departed on Saturday for Dubai. He was on a plane carrying 13 American based horses for the Dubai World Cup program at Nad al Sheba racecourse on March 27 that landed safely on Sunday evening. Others on the flight included Medaglia d'Oro and Domestic Dispute.
