Enable extends unbeaten run and further cements World's best status

Date: 08/06/2019

The King George (G1) at Ascot provided yet another example of why Enable is the leading horse in training at present. The five-year-old daughter of Nathaniel produced yet another breathtaking performance to see off the ultra-consistent Crystal Ocean by a neck, in what turned out to be one of the greatest races of recent times. This also continued the incredible run of trainer John Gosden and gave a further example of why Frankie Dettori has been at the top of the jockey ranks for so long.

This meant that Enable extended her winning run that dates back to April of 2017. This is also her only defeat in her career. She has now won 12 of her 13 races and is going to go down as one of the greatest horses of all time.

Enable was very well supported on the run-up to the race with punters using the latest Paddy Power sign up offer, which saw her eventually sent off as 8/15 favourite, ahead of rival Crystal Ocean at 7/2. The latter was coming off the back of a victory in the Prince of Wales's Stakes and a first Group One as he continues to improve with age. A very similar process to many of Sir Michael Stoute's older horses.

Enable endured a troubled passage throughout, which is further testament to not only her ability but attitude and will to win. This saw her trapped out wide for the first four furlongs, in which she was held up in the last quartet. Frankie then began to progress the filly four furlongs out, as she closed quickly from the three-furlong marker. This then saw Enable take up the running two furlongs out and kick for home following being shaken up. She was then pressed by Crystal Ocean and the pair began to battle it out up the testing Ascot finish. Enable continued to hold a narrow but decisive lead as she was pushed out to win by a neck from the gallant and brave Crystal Ocean.

Both horses are now heading to the Qatar Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe (G1) at Longchamp in October. Enable is set to go off the short-priced favourite and she looks to become the only horse in history to win the race on three occasions. If she can do so, then she is going to further cement her legacy as a true legend of Flat racing.
