Lucy

Jet
We got two new kittens on May 25, 2011. They are litter mates, a boy who weighs 1.25 lbs. and a girl who weighs only 15 ounces, who were born on March 20, 2011. It took a couple of days to decide on names, but they are now Jet and Lucy. They are both little balls of energy and it was hard to get any photos since they wouldn't sit still long enough, but these are them the day they came home. They are both seal points and shouldn't get very large as the mother was about 6 lbs and the father about 8 lbs. These photos are from their first day home.

Our other two cats, Lightning and Renji, seemed to accept them with no problem. They didn't growl or hiss, just sniffed them and watched them. Lightning has since decided they are her kittens and will play with them and let them wrestle her without complaining. Renji isn't quite and easy going with them, as will smack them if they get too rowdy.

8/17/11 - Today Jet weighs 4 lbs. 6 ounces and Lucy weighs an even 4 lbs. They are very active and run around like crazy things all the time now. They will be 5 months old in 3 days so it won't be long before they go in for their spay and neuter. Jet had managed to lose his collar for almost a month but we finally found it yesterday. Lucy seems to have no problem keeping hers on, but this was the second time he had hidden his.

7/24/11 - Today I caught Lightning and Jet having a mutual lick fest. She used to be very close to Zippy, so it was nice to see her taking to her new boy this well.

7/19/11 - Tomorrow they will be officially 4 months old and will get their final set of shots. Today the new collars I ordered for them from Fat Cat Collars arrived, so Below are a couple of photos of them in their new finery. They don't seem to mind them much, but they can't hide as easily now with the bells on them. The collars are set at their smallest size right now, so plenty of room for them to grow. Jet has the blue with a blue bell and Lucy has the pink with a silver bell. Their weights as of 7/21/11 are almost 3.5 lbs for Jet and 3.25 lbs for Lucy.

7/10/11 - Below are some photos from today. At the top you have Lucy, both kittens eating, and Jet. Below you have Lightning and Lucy then all four cats eating together. Lightning has decided she likes the kittens now and will actually lick them and let them lay with her.

7/01/11 - The kittens are about 3.5 months old now and Lucy (left) is now 2 lbs 10 ounces while Jet is 2 lbs 14 ounces. They have had 2 of their 3 sets of shots, so only one vet visit left to go now. They are so full of energy it is hard to get a photo of them other than when they are laying down sleeping. When away they are mostly running around like crazy kitties.

6/17/11 - The kittens are growing like weeds! Lucy was up to 1 3/4 lbs and Jet was a whopping 2 1/4 lbs, almost twice as heavy as when we brought them home.

6/7/11 - Below are the kittens after we had them for 2 weeks. Jet (right) is up to 1 3/4 lbs and Lucy is 1 1/4 lbs now. She is definitely going to be the darker of the two, and perhaps have slightly longer fur although it is hard to tell yet. Jet managed to "lose" his first collar, so I made them each a new one from thin elastic thread (easy to stretch or break if necessary) with a bead on it, pink for Lucy and blue for Jet.

5/31/11 - Today they had their first visit to the vet for a check-up and their first round of shots. They got a clean bill of health and were not very good patients, with lots of wiggling and complaining during the shots and especially when they had their temperature taken. I suspect they will not be quite so happy to take a ride in the car next time. Jet also got a new "collar", a hair elastic, so I can tell which little blur is running past. I managed to catch Jet posing a bit on Tuesday, although Lucy was not cooperating and I could only get one shot before she ran off again.

5/27/11 - Today (Friday), Lucy was able to jump on the couch by herself and is up to a whole pound in weight. Renji is showing a bit of interest in them and seems to be getting used to them. Lightning is still pissed off and will probably hold a grudge for a while. It took her a month before she quit smacking Renji around so she will take a lot longer. Today they discovered Copper's old warm bed (has a heating pad in it) and were both sleeping in it. Above are a couple of photos of them eating with Renji to show how small they look next to his 22 lbs.

5/26/11 - It is their second day here (Thursday) and Lightning and Renji have decided they are not very happy about having their home invaded. Both have hissed a couple of times and while Renji is sitting and glaring at them, which they mostly ignore, Lightning is hiding upstairs and pretending they don't exist. The kittens don't seem to care too much and continute to play together between extended naps on my lap or down my shirt, which seems to be their favorite spot for some reason. They also slept in the bed with me last night. They have been tentatively named Jet and Lucy for Jet Li and Lucy Liu, going for the Asian action movie angle. Jet is quite the jumper and can get on the couch or bed on his own, but Lucy is smaller but is catching up quickly. Both of them figured out the stairs today and run up and down all the time now.

5/25/11 - Below are a few photos of them playing on their first afternoon in their new home.

Sadly, our previous Siamese cat, Zippy, was diagnosed with lymphoma in December 2010 and declined rapidly as he refused to eat. We had to have him euthanized on January 13, 2011. He was shortly followed by his buddy Copper on February 14 at the age of 20 due to the infirmities of old age. They will be missed. You can view his photos here.
