Trackside Trivia
Games and Puzzles to Horse Around With Vol. 1
Written and Illustrated by Tom Gimbel
Trafford Publishing, 2006, 57 pages softcover

For those who have been wishing for a horse racing themed set of puzzles and games to keep you entertained during trips or dark days, here is the book for you. This volume contains 40 puzzles of various types including triva, word search, riddles, matching games, spot the difference games, and more. All are related to horse racing in some way whether about famous horses, jockeys, trainers, or the facilities. The level of difficulty varies from easy to pretty tough, so there is something for everyone.

Some of my favorites included:
"Mount Up" where you match the correct jockey to his famous mount
"Hoof Prints" where you unscramble the names of Derby winners
"Track IQ" which is a crossword type puzzle using terms you hear at the races
"Off to the Race" where you have to figure out in which state each track is located

While it is a bit heavy on the picture matching games for my taste, most people should enjoy the mix of puzzles and games in the book and wish it included more. There were a couple of errors which will probably get fixed in future printings where 1990 Preakness winner Summer Squall was called just plain Squall, so watch out for those.

I found it a fun diversion on a long road trip, but it would also be good to use at a Derby or other horse racing party as entertainment for your guests. I would definitely recommend it to any racing fan who also enjoys games.

Trackside Trivia has a list price of $10.99 and is available at Amazon.com for only $9.89. Also check out Artstar Studios for their other horse racing related items including some really funny t-shirts.
