Drawing the posts with Media and Communications Director Daryl Wells and Buffalo Sabres hockey player Andrew Peters.
Date: 07/11/2007

Results are here!

Entries were taken and post positions drawn on Wednesday afternoon for the 72nd running of the Prince of Wales Stakes, the second leg of Canada's Triple Crown. A field of just 6 three-year-olds were entered headed up by Mike Fox, winner of the Queen's Plate three weeks ago, listed as the 9-5 morning line favorite. Four other horses are back from the Queen's Plate including second place finisher Alezzandro, the 2-1 second choice, and third place finisher Jiggs Coz, the 5-2 third choice. Only one new horse joined the fray this time, allowance winner and 15-1 outsider Poacher's Moon. If Mike Fox can win again, he will look for the Triple Crown sweep in 3 weeks time in the 1 1/2-mile Breeders' Stakes at Woodbine, run on August 5. Interestingly, this is the first year that the Canadian Triple Crown will be contested over three different surfaces, as the Queen's Plate was run over Woodbine's Polytrack, the Prince of Wales will be

Shillelagh Slew winner of the 2006 Prince of Wales Stakes
run over Fort Erie's conventional dirt surface, and the Breeders' is contested on turf.

Ian Black, trainer of Mike Fox said of his horse's chances over dirt, "Most of us (in the field) are coming off the Polytrack anyway. Emma-Jayne Wilson is a very good jockey, very strong, very smart, what you're looking for in a rider, top notch. In a six horse field I'd rather have drawn to the inside but having Alezzandro to our outside is an advantage. "

Sid Attard, trainer of Jiggs Coz said, "We will ship in Sunday morning. (In the race) we'd like to get close (to the pace) but not necessarily on the lead, like he did in the Plate Trial. His exercise rider said he had no problems working over the dirt (Woodbine's training track)."

Her daughter Dancethruthedawn also won the Plate in 2001 but finished second in the Prince of Wales to Win City. In 2003, Wando won easily en route to his Triple Crown triumph while A Bit O'Gold won as part of his campaign that won him the 3-year-old championship for 2004.
