Medaglia d'Oro, morning line favorite for the Pacific Classic. |
Led by triple millionaire Medaglia d'Oro, five horses were entered for Sunday's 13th running of Del Mar's $1-million, Grade I Pacific Classic at 1 1/4 miles on the main track. Set to tackle the Robert Frankel-trained 4-year-old are Milwaukee Brew, the two-time winner of the Santa Anita Handicap who also is trained by Frankel, the undefeated Argentine-bred Candy Ride, and Fleetstreet Dancer, who has won nearly a quarter of a million dollars.
Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone has been assigned to ride the undefeated Argentine-bred Candy Ride in Sunday's $1-million Pacific Classic at Del Mar. Krone, who is the second leading rider at the Del Mar meet, replaces Gary Stevens, who suffered a collapsed lung and a fractured vertebra in a freak spill at the finish of Saturday's Arlington Million at Arlington Park. Candy Ride was winner of two Group I races in Argentina plus the Grade II American Handicap at Hollywood Park on July 4.
