2009 Kentucky Derby and Oaks Future Wager
Pool One

Date: 02/10/2009

Pool One of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager opens for betting at noon ET on Thursday February 12 and closes at 6 PM ET on Sunday February 15. As has been the case every year the bet has been offered, the mutuel field consisting of all other 3- year-olds was installed as the morning line favorite at 5-2 by Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia. In four of the last ten years, the Kentucky Derby winner was part of the field in Pool One. There is a tie for second favorite at 10-1 between Remsen Stakes winner Old Fashioned and Hutcheson Stakes winner Capt. Candyman Can. Six others, including last weekend's Risen Star winner Friesan Fire and Las Virgenes winner Stardom Bound, are next at 12-1.

The Future Wager is a two-dollar minimum bet to win only with no refunds if your horse doesn't start in the race. Pool 2 is scheduled for March 12-15 and the third and final pool is set for April 2-5. The 134th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 2. Full rules and info for the wager is available here.

Free BRISnet past performances for Pool One are available from the Kentucky Derby website. Daily Racing Form also has free past performances available here now.
