2008 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races Selected Runners

Ramonti wins the 2007 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup over Viva Pataca
Date: 11/26/2008

Entries are here!

This year's Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races will welcome its largest ever number of global racing stars to Sha Tin on Sunday, December 14. The four Group 1 races are worth a combined HK$62 million (US$8 million) in purse money, and a record 39 international runners have been invited to join 17 of the very best from Hong Kong. Overall, 16 individual Group or Grade 1 winners from 11 different racing jurisdictions have been selected to participate.

William Nader, the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Executive Director of Racing, said, "This year we have met with an unprecedented level of interest from world renowned horsemen – an exceptional count of 38 different trainers are participating - from five continents to compete in our Turf World Championships. And we can guarantee championship line-ups given the presence of Breeders' Cup heroes, Classic winners, defending titleholders and a whole host of Group 1 stars from far and wide. Such has been the demand for places, we believe each of the four Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races will see full fields of 14 runners."

Kip Deville arrives at Sha Tin

In addition to several quality European-based runners, there are four coming from the United States including 2007 Breeders' Cup Mile winner and 2008 runner-up Kip Deville. Kip Deville arrived in Hong Kong on November 25, is in the quarantine barn at Sha Tin now, and is scheduled to be out on the training track there tomorrow. The other US-based runners planning to enter are Awesome Gem, Out of Control, and Artiste Royal.
