On October 30th, Lone Star Park will host the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships for the first time time in the 21 year history of the event. The eight race series will be televised live on NBC from 1:00 to 6:00pm Eastern time and the audio portion will also be broadcast live on the internet via Real Audio. Pre-entries are now closed and the list of horses who can enter are set. Just click the race name below to see the horses with links to a full profile with a photo and lots of info about each.
When more than 14 horses are pre-entered in a race, the 7 horses who have earned the most Breeders' Cup Points receive an automatic berth in the race. Points are earned by finishing first, second or third in American graded stakes races this year. The remaining 7 horses are selected by the Breeders' Cup Racing Directors/Secretaries Panel to fill out the rest of the 14-horse field. A preference list is then established beginning with the No. 15 rated horse. Prior to the entry deadline, horses will fill vacancies, in order of preference, should there be a defection from the main body of the field. Entries will be taken on Wednesday October 27 and post positions will be drawn that morning.
