Notes: Nyquist broke his maiden in his first start in June at Santa Anita and never looked back, ending the season with a win in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) at Keeneland. In his first 4 starts he was on or close to the pace, but in the Juvenile he showed he could rally, coming from 8th early to win by a half length. He is undefeated in all his starts so far, including his 2016 debut in the San Vicente Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita on February 15. He shipped to Florida to win the Florida Derby (G1), defeating Mohaymen. He came into the Kentucky Derby (G1) an undefeated favorite, and won by 1 1/2 lengths. He went on to finished third in the mud at the Preakness behind Exaggerator then skipped the Belmont Stakes.
After a bit of rest, Nyquist started next in the Haskell Invitational where he was sent off as the favorite, where he vied for the lead most of the way before fading to fourth behind Exaggerator. He went next to the Pennsylvania Derby where he finished 6th as the favorite.
