Trainer Nick Zito will make one last try at getting a Derby starter with American Style in the Lexington Stakes on Saturday. |
This weekend is the last of the Derby preps and includes the Federico Tesio at Pimlico and the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland. No real Derby contenders are entered in the Tesio this year but favorite Magic Weisner is expected to go to the Preakness if he does well here. The Lexington has several horses making final attempts at earning a spot in the Derby field and the $325,000 purse could make a big difference in who gets in since preference is given in order of graded stakes earnings. Big hitters in the race are Officer and Easyfromthegitgo with several other hopefuls snapping at their heels. A good performance here could easily send any of these starters to the Derby.
Update: Officer has been scratched and will be out for 90 days with a tendon injury. Details here.
ESPN2 will show both races from 6:00-7:00pm EDT. You can also watch the Lexington online at the links provided below. Past performances for both races will be available free online from DRF and Equibase with links after the entries below. Here are the fields for each race with morning line odds where available and links to useful info for each.
