Repent, winner of the Louisiana Derby will be the favorite in the Illinois Derby
This weekend will have two major Kentucky Derby preps with the Santa Anita Derby and the Illinois Derby. Several top Triple Crown prospects will be taking their next step along the trail to Kentucky. Came Home will finally get to prove if he can go farther than a mile as he takes on Mayakovsky, U S S Tinosa, and Danthebluegrassman at 9 furlongs in the Santa Anita Derby. Repent opts to go to Chicago and qualify for a $1 million bonus for winning the Illinois Derby and any of the Triple Crown races. He will be taking on a less than stellar field including Changeintheweather, Fonz's, and Publication which makes his prospects for qualifying for the bonus look pretty good. If he wins this race, that will make three bonuses he is eligible for if he goes on to win the Kentucky Derby.
Also this weekend is Pool Three of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. My advice is to wait until Sunday afternoon and see what happened in the preps before you decide who to bet on in the Future Wager. Check out the odds around 5pm and make your bets at the last minute (wagering closes at 5:30pm EST).
ESPN will show both races from 5:00-6:00pm EST. You can also watch or listen online at the links provided below. Past performances for all the races will be available free online from DRF and Equibase with links after the entries below. Here are the fields for each race with morning line odds where available and links to useful info for each.
